Star Trek Beyond Review

I know this movie came out a little while ago but I didn't review it when I first saw it. I did see it again today so now it's fresh in my mind.
I thought it was a great film. A definite improvement over the last installment of the franchise.

So let's get into the story. The normal crew is together as usual. They take a trip to the new Federation Base, Yorketown, when they encounter an alien who claims her ship was attacked and her crew was taken. And she needs their help to save them. Kirk and crew accept the mission and make way towards the coordinates. When they are attacked by a swam of ships. The ships disable the Enterpise by literally cutting it to pieces. They take out the engine and cut the throat of the ship. The crew is forced to evacuate. While clearing the ship Kirk encounter the leader of the attack, Krall. He is after an artifact that the Enterprise has on board. As the crew is evacuating in escape pods Krall's crew is taking the pods to the planet below. Eventually the Enterprise is abandoned and the crew is separated on the planet below. Chekov and Kirk land together along with the alien they were trying to help, but Kirk suspects she was in on the attack and his assumptions turn out to be correct. Then we go to Scotty. He encounter a new friend, Jaylah. She saves Scotty from some aliens that tried to attack him. He asked her to help him find the rest of the crew, she agrees only if he will help her fix her "house". Her house turns out to be an old star ship, the U.S.S. Franklin.  They discover that Krall is after the artifact to put together an ancient weapon that can wipe of millions. Scotty, with Jaylah's help is able to assemble part of the crew, Kirk, Spock, McCoy. They go to rescue the rest of the crew. They are able to rescue them but Krall is on his way to the Yorketown base. The Enterprise crew goes after him, piloting the Frankling which hasn't flown in a very long time. They are able to destroy Krall's fleet by broadcasting a frequency that they can't hadle. Krall is able to enter Yorketown. Kirk and Uhura figure out that Krall is actually the former captain of the Franklin and has somehow been able to prolong his life. Krall tires to use this ancient weapon inside Yorketown but Kirk is able to stop him and almost gets sucked into space but Spock and McCoy save him at the last second. Our last seen is the crew celebrating Kirk's birthday and admiring the building of a brand new Enterprise. Ready for the next mission.

So I really enjoyed the film. I liked the addition of the Jaylah character. I thought her and Scotty made the movie. I hope she will be in the next one.
The VFX were great as usual. I liked the story line. Overall a great movie and my favorite of the franchise.
I'd give it an 8.5/10
