Super Megafest 2016 Review
I went to the Super Megafest Convention in Marlborough MA this weekend. It's s 3 day show held at the Royal Plaza Convention Center. They do a spring and fall show.
Here's what I thought,
This is a show that really doesn't need to be 3 days. Saturday and Sunday will do just fine. The venue itself is ok, it's not too far off the highway. It's a small venue, I'd say similar to the Shriners for those of you who have been to that show. The set up was strange though, vendors didn't have much space. Tables were narrow and there was hardly any room behind the tables to move around. They didn't have separate rooms to have panels and Q&A's, the just used curtains to section off some areas which was weird. They wasted a lot of space with TV and movie cars, they could have brought in more vendors. Probably 8-10 dealers selling comics. As far as the guests went, I didn't think they were all that great, I would have liked to have met Richard Dean Anderson because I'm a huge Stargate SG1 fan but not for $75 an autograph. How some of these celebrities come up with their prices is beyond me but I won't get into that. No real comic guests other than Jim Steranko but that's ok, he's a legend and really doesn't need any company. He really is a legend in the industry and always great to talk to. His stories are always interesting. And I actually got a piece of Art from him which was the highlight of the show for me. I never thought I'd own a Steranko piece but now I do.
As far as comic buying went it wasn't great for me. Not a lot of silver age keys available. I walked away with a few books that I wanted. A pretty high grade Star Wars 42, a Detective Comics 411, and a Batman 357 were the highlights. I've gone to this show 4 times now I think and it's been ok each time, never terrible and never great. I'd say it's worth going to if you live close buy and want something to do for a day. It was still a fun experience. It definitley has potential. With a few adjustments to the floor plan and a few better guests I think the show can do well.
Overall I'd give this show a 6.5/10
Did any of you attend Super Megafest this weeknd? If so what did you think?
