Rhode Island Comic Con 2016 Review Part 1
Man this show was a mess. First I'll talk about the show itself then I'll talk about how it was for me. So those of you who have been to this con know it's very disorganized and not run well and it was no different this year. This is the third straight year I've gone, and it gets worse every year, as the show grows, so do the problems.
The floor plan was terribly designed. All the booths were facing the wrong direction, the flow of traffic was slow because of it. Artist alley was randomly in the middle of the show floor. They let a lot of vendors set up with random junk. They had a guy selling old fashioned soda, some weird haunted elevator green screen thing, even a rock wall, why? I have no clue.
This show is held in two separate builds, the Dunkin Donuts Center and the Rhode Island Comvention Center. It's so poorly laid out its crazy. They would only let you walk in and out in certain ways. You'd have to leave one building and go outside to get to the other even though they are connected. Just no management at all and no one there has any clue what is going on.
I don't blame the volunteers, they had no one helping them. Clearly the promoter didn't care. They made their money and that's all that mattered to them. I swear they must have paid off the fire marshal because there is no way it was legal to cram people in the way they did with only one way in and one way out for thousands of people. It was a joke. Just aggravating beyond belief. I would say it probably took 30-45 minutes to make your way from one building to the other because of how they made you go. When if they managed the flow of traffic correctly it would probably take 5-10 minutes. Complete disarray everywhere. They didn't accomedate dealers at all. Making us go the same way as everyone else. Making it much harder to leave your table for any real length of time. I could really go on and on about how much of a disaster the show was as far as set up, management, floor plan, just everything. So I'll end this segment with the worst part of the show. The Jeffery Dean Morgan fiasco. He gets there late, apparently due to his flight. There are thousands of people waiting for photo ops and autographs. He goes back and forth to each and people are waiting in line for hours, almost all day. So long that the show closed at 7pm and as I'm writing this at 8pm there are still people in line. They clogged the ailes, stairwells, pretty much everywhere. Making it almost impossible to movie in that area. Just a mess from start to finish.
Ok so I'm just going to write a part 2 because it's going to be a lot different. So this ends part 1
On a scale of 1-10 Rhode Island Comic Con 2016 as far as how it's run gets a -5... Yes it was really that bad!
