So I went to see Rouge One tonight and it was a good movie. Not great, not bad just good.
For those of you who don't know this is a prequel to A New Hope, so we pretty much know how the story ends.
I'm going to give a very brief synopsis of the movie because like I said I'm sure most of you know the plot.
We get introduced to some new characters, the main one being Jyn Erso. At the beginning of the film we see her as a child with her mother and father Galen Erso, Galen was a scientist working on building the Death Star, which I guess he abondoned.
We see Krennic come to bring him back to finish his work but he doesn't want too. Jyn's mother is killed and she runs away. Then we see her as an adult.
She had been captured for something then is broken out by the Rebels and recruited on a team led by Captain Cassian to go find her father who had been working on the Death Star and had finished it. Her father sent a pilot with a message that he built a defect into the Death Star and it can be destroyed.
Then we see a quick glimpse of Darth Vader, which was cool.
So like I said we know the story already, the final act is them trying to steal the plans to the Death Star, Jyn is able to download them and broadcast them. We even get a brief cameo by C-3PO and R2-D2. Then probably the best part of the movie is the rebels are trying to get the plans off their ship to eventually get them to Princess Leia and Darth Vader Boards their ship and just massacres them. It was badass, and the movie ends with a rebel member delivering the plans to Leai who has her back turned to us then turns and they digitally put in Carrie Fisher which was cool. And the movie ends.
So my thoughts on it are, it was good. Now let me get one thing straight first, this is no Force Awakens. The Force Awakens was an incredible movie in a league of its own. So Rouge One pails in comparison. And like I said before I think a major downfall was that we already know the outcome from watching all the other Star Wars films. You know the good guys lose this one. In fact all the new characters including Jyn are killed. Not one of them make it through alive.
I guess they did what they had to because there is no sequel, this leads directly into Episode IV. I honestly felt bored at some points because I knew where the story was going. Some of the new characters were cool but they're gone now. By far the best part of the movie was the 2 minutes of screen time Darth Vader had. The last 10 minutes of the movie were the best. The VFX were great as usual for a Star Wars film. I mean all in all if you're a Star Wars fan you'll like the movie it just didn't blow me away like The Force Awakens did.
I'd say 6.0/10
Have any of you guys seen it yet ? Let me know what you think about the movie.
