Terrificon 2016 Review
Terrificon was a great show this year. It's held at the Mohegan Sun Casino in Connectucut, which is a great venue. This was my second year attending this con. I only went on Saturday. This show is small in comparison to Boston but has a great selection of comic dealers and artists. The main reason I went to the con this year was because they were having an event with Kevin Smith on Saturday night. I will talk about that later.
So the show itself was great, like I said the selection of dealers was quite good for the size of the show. And many of them had great prices and seemed motivated to sell. I was able to get a lot of great deals and made a lot of sales as well. The books that I was the happiest to get were a Crow 1 second print, Miracleman 15, and a Daredevil 111 the David Aja variant.
There were also a great selection of artists at this show but being that Boston was just the week prior I didn't have a huge budget. I did get to meet David Wenzel who drew the original 3 part Hobbit series. I had him sign my copies. He was wicked nice to talk to. He had some original pages for sale that were incredible but just a little out of my budget. I did buy a print from him that he drew a small sketch of Bilbo on so that was cool.
I also met Katrina Law who plays Nyssa Al Ghul on Arrow. I had met her a couple years ago at the Rhode Island Comic Con. But she signed a photo for me and was extremely nice.
Ok so now for the highlight of the show. They had an event called An Evening With Kevin Smith, which I stated earlier was the entire reason for going to this show. And what an event it was. The event was supposed to start at 7:30 and I think it was scheduled for 2 hours. Jason Mewes came out at about 7:45 and talked until about 8:00 then he introduced Kevin Smith. He was just awesome. He told so many great stories. He talked about how he got started in film, about his relationship with Jason and the guys from Comic Book Men. He talked about some upcoming projects, like a Mall Rats TV series. I didn't know about that before and Mall Rats is my favorite Kevin Smith movie and I can't wait for the series. I think it will make a perfect episodic series. He spoke a lot about the Flash TV series and how passionate he is about it. You could really tell how much he loved the series and how honored he was to get to direct an episode.
He did a long Q&A. Like I said I think he was only scheduled for 2 hours he went 3. It was just a great experience, and for a fan of his it made me appreciate him even more because of how he treats the fans.
I was very pleased with how Terrificon went and can't wait until next year.
The show itself gets a 9/10
The Kevin Smith event hands down a 10/10
Did any of you guys attend the show or the Kevin Smith event?
