Rhode Island Comic Con 2015 Review Part 2
Hey guys so this is going to be part 2 of my Rhode Island Comic Con 2015 review. This one will be more positive, I promise. So part one was my experience from the dealer side of things this part will be about my personal experience at the show and how it went for me and what I got there.
So let's start with Friday. The best part of cons for me is seeing all my friends that are dealers who I don't get to see often. With the exception of a few I usually only see them at cons. So we had plenty of time to catch up an chat before the doors opened on Friday. And one great advantage of getting a dealer pass is being able to get in early and being able to go through boxes and see what everyone has and make deals before they let all the attendees in.
Saturday for me was a lot busier. I spent a lot of time at the table selling books, which I enjoy. I'm sure like me, most of you don't have a ton of people around you that are into comics so it's nice to be able to talk to people intelligently about characters and books that you enjoy. It was definitly crowded and took a while to walk around but it was fun.
So as for what I bought at the con, I didn't get a whole lot but I got some quality stuff. I didn't buy a whole lot of comics. I was looking for some Red Hood books and I was able to find a few that I was looking for. Off the top of my head some of the books I bought were Batman 638 and annual 25. I bought a set of Batman Death in the Family. Some other books I got were, Absolute Vertigo 1, Suicide Squad 1, Catwoman 51, some Witchblade issues I needed and a few others.
CBCS was there so I submitted some books with them.
Now the highlights of the show for me was meeting two artists that I really wanted to meet and that I hadn't ever met before.
The first was Mike Grell. He's probaly most well known for his work on Green Arrow, who's one of my favorite comic characters. He signed my Green Arrow 1 as well as my set of Green Arrow the Longbow Hunters books 1-3. He also did an incredible sketch of Green Arrow for me on a blank cover. He was such a nice guy and a true legend in the industry. If any of you ever get a chance to meet him at a con do so. You won't be disappointed.
The other artist that I was able to meet was Alé Garza and wow what an awesome talented artist. I know he might not be a household name but he's an incredible artist. I was familiar with his work on Fathom as well as Teen Tians and Superman/Batman. He signed some books for me and I also commissioned him to do a Witchblade sketch for me. And he blew me away with his sketch. It was larger than I had thought it would be and he colored it which I didnt know he was going to do. It's an amazing work. I got to talk to him for a while and I was looking through the original art pages that he had for sale. He only had one page from Fathom and it was beautiful. I didn't have any original art pages in my collection but I'm a huge fan of Fathom and for the price I just couldn't pass it up. I can't even express to you how happy I am to own it. I hope more people get familiar with his work because he deserves the success. Guys go check out his work and go see him at a con if you can. You will be impressed.
So I had a great time at this show. I got to see a lot of great friends and I left with some comics that I was looking for and some incredible artwork. Even with all the issues this show can't seem to shake I'd still recommend it to people. I will be attending it for he foreseeable future. They just need to plan it better and have a better layout. It wasn't the best con I attended this year but it was good.
I would rate my personal experience for his con as an 8.0/10.
Let me know if any of you guys attended the con this year and what your thoughts on the show are.
Thanks for stopping by and take care guys.
