Guardians of the Galaxy movie review
Hey everyone, so this is going to be my review of the Guardians of the Galaxy movie. Let me start by saying there will be SPOILERS, so read at your own risk.
So I saw the movie in 3D, and the 3D was actually pretty good in my opinion. I also thought that the special fx in the movie were done well.
Ok so here is my breakdown of the movie.
So the movie starts with a young Peter Quill who is at the hospital as his mother is dying. After she dies he runs outside where he is taken by Yondu. We then fast forward 20+ years and now he's Star Lord. Star Lord is then captured stealing an orb, which we later find out contains an infinity stone. Then we get to see Ronan, who sends Gamora to get the orb for him. While she is trying to take the orb from Star Lord we get introduced to Groot and Rocket who want to turn Star Lord in to collect the bounty on him. They all end up getting captured by the Nova Corps and are sent to prison. While they are there they meet Drax. They end up escaping from prison and take the orb to the Collector. We then see Ronan, who is not happy that Gamora has betrayed him, and he is summoned by Thanos. We actually get to see Thanos this time, not just his face. So then he sends Nebula after the Guardians to get the orb back. So Nebula and Ronan's men go after the Guardians and Nebula ends up getting the orb. Nebula brings the orb back to Ronan, he then defies Thanos and uses the infinity stone himself. So Ronan is out to destroy the galaxy with his new power. The Guardians have to team up with Yondu's men and the Nova Corps to battle Ronan. Gamora and Nebula have a fight. The Nova Corps try's to contain Ronan's ship but fails. It looks like Ronan is going to kill the Guardians when Rocket comes crashing in, crashing his ship into Ronan's. So it looks like all is lost for our heroes as the ship is going down and they have no way out. Groot forms a sort of cocoon around them, but Rocket says he will die if he does it. The ship goes down and our Guardians survive, except Groot, problem is Ronan also survives. Star Lord manages to distract Ronan long enough for Rocket to get a shot off and destroy his hammer which contained the infinity stone. Star Lord dives for it and gets the stone. He then takes Gamora's hand, then Drax takes hers and Rocket takes his. They all harness the power of the stone and destroy Ronan. So the Guardians have saved the galaxy and have been pardoned by the Nova Corps. To conclude the movie we see our heroes flying away and looking for there next adventure. Rocket is holding a pot with a part of Groot in it which starts to come back to life. So now the entire team is back and ready to defend the galaxy again.
Then we have the end credits scene, we see the collector nursing his wounds and then we hear a voice in the background. The camera turns around and we see Howard the Duck. The End...
So in a nutshell that's the movie. I didn't really have any expectations going into this movie because I never read much in the way of Guardians comics, so I went in with an open mind. I've heard so many reviews calling this one of if not the best Marvel movie, but honestly I was disappointed. I didn't particularly like any of the characters very much, especially the villains. I thought they were very weak. If I had to pick a favorite character I'd say Gamora. But that's probably because I'm a fan of Zoe Saldana. I thought the battle between Gamora and Nebula could have been epic, but it was extremely underwhelming. I didn't really like Star Lord much and I thought some of Rocket's humor was ok. But I thought a lot of the humor was misplaced or overdone and the serious parts didn't really work. We get to see Thanos, which was cool, even though it was only for a minute or so. Of corse Stan Lee made his cameo appearance which is always fun to see. I thought the final battle was somewhat of a disappointment. And the after credits scene with Howard the Duck was just a waste in my opinion.
So overall the movie was ok, definitely not one of my favorite Marvel movies.
I'd give Guardians of the Galaxy a 5.5/10
I hope you guys enjoy my review and let me know if you liked Guardians of the Galaxy.
